Operate Elevated Work Platform Refresher

This refresher is delivered 100% online through our learning portal. After enrolment, you’ll receive immediate access credentials via email.

The assessment consists of a series of quizzes covering the core competencies of RIIHAN301E. You can complete the course at your own pace within the 30-day access window. Most students complete in 1–2 hours of focused study.

Once you’ve finished the quizzes, email us a copy of your existing SOA (dated after 2015) for verification. Statement of Attainment is issued within 1–2 business days of receiving correct documentation.

For site supervisors and authorised personnel: Authorised personnel should view both the individual’s original Statement of Attainment for these units in addition to this Statement of Completion confirming induction currency has been maintained via completion of the refresher course.

RIIHAN301E — Operate elevating work platform

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. Appropriate for those working in operational roles. The refresher covers:

• Locating and applying relevant documentation, policies and procedures
• Implementing the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of operating elevating work platforms
• Selecting and using the required plant, tools and equipment
• Planning and preparing for operating elevating work platforms
• Identifying, addressing and/or reporting (verbally or in writing) monitoring systems and alarms
• Identifying and following procedures in emergency or hazardous situations
• Applying hand-eye coordination
• Working effectively with others to undertake and complete the operation of elevating work platforms that meet all of the required outcomes

The refresher assessment requires you to demonstrate current knowledge of:

• Locating and applying relevant documentation, policies and procedures
• Selecting and using the required plant, tools and equipment
• Planning and preparing for operating elevating work platforms
• Identifying, addressing and reporting monitoring systems and alarms (verbally or in writing)
• Identifying and following procedures in emergency or hazardous situations
• Applying hand-eye coordination during operation
• Working effectively with others to complete EWP operations meeting all required outcomes
• Implementing safe, effective and efficient operating procedures

This refresher covers RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform — for EWP machinery with a boom length below 11 metres.

For boom-type elevating work platforms 11 metres or greater, you’ll need the high-risk work licence TLILIC2005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform. This is a separate qualification regulated by your state’s WHS authority.

Refresher training is recommended every 2 years for EWP operation, in line with Australian Standards and updates to WHS Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice.

This Statement of Attainment doesn’t have an expiry date, but most worksites and employers expect currency to be maintained. Many operators mandate biennial refreshing as part of their site safety management system.

If you’ve already completed equivalent units of competency with another RTO, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (no fee, no reassessment required) or Recognition of Prior Learning (assessment of existing skills and experience).
