COURSE OBJECTIVE

RIIRTM201E Position and set up a variable message sign

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to transport, position, operate and remove variable message signs, which may be truck or trailer mounted, and conduct housekeeping activities relevant to the task in the civil construction industry. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

You will learn how to prepare to plan and prepare to position, set up and operate a variable message sign, Transport variable message sign, Position variable message sign, Operate variable message sign, Shut down and remove variable message sign from site and Conduct clean-up activities

RIIRTM202E Position and set up portable traffic signals

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to transport, position, operate and remove portable traffic signals and conduct housekeeping activities relevant to the task in the civil construction industry. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

You will learn how to plan and prepare to position, set-up and operate portable traffic signals, transport portable traffic signals, position portable traffic signals, operate communication devices, commissioning portable traffic signals, de-commissioning and remove portable traffic signals from site and conduct clean-up activities.

Position and set up a variable message sign course are delivered in standard lecture format, with demonstrations included and active participation obligatory. Written assignments will also be an essential element of the course.

RIIRTM202E Position and set up portable traffic signals

Position and set up portable traffic signals course are delivered in standard lecture format, with demonstrations included and active participation obligatory. Written assignments will also be an essential element of the course.

 

Course Includes:

  • Transport, position, set-up, operate and shut-down a variable message sign on at least two occasions.
  • Locate and apply required legislation, documentation, policies and procedures
  • Implement the requirements, procedures and techniques to position, set-up and operate variable message signs, including:
  • Identifying, reporting and recording hazards and risks, and recommending control measures
  • Identifying and applying environmental protection requirements
  • work with others to position, set-up and operate variable message signs that meets required outcomes, including:
  • Using communication techniques and equipment to convey information to others
  • Completing written and verbal reporting requirements
  • Organising work activities to meet task requirements
  • Communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions.

&

  • Position, set-up and operate portable traffic signals on at least two occasions, including:
  • Transporting and positioning portable traffic signals to meet traffic management plan and site requirements.
  • Locate and apply relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures
  • Implement the requirements, procedures and techniques to position, set-up and operate portable traffic signals, including:
  • Identifying, reporting and recording hazards and risks, and recommending control measures
  • Identifying and applying environmental protection requirements
  • Carrying out inspection and fault finding as per manufacturer instructions and organisational requirements
  • Work with others to position, set-up and operate portable traffic signals that meets required outcomes, including:
  • Using communication techniques and equipment to convey information to others
  • Completing written and verbal reporting requirements
  • Organising work activities to meet task requirements.

 

 

Course Requirements:

  • Be at least 15 years of age.
  • Have completed Year 10 in the Australian school system or equivalent; and
  • Have language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to ASCF Level 2.
  • Provision of the participant’s Unique Student Identifier (USI); and
  • Provision of Australian legal photo identification for assessment purposes.
  • Must wear enclosed shoes
